Beautiful Katamari Demo Review

I got my copy on the September issue, #74, of Official Xbox Magazine last night and on this month's disc there is an exclusive demo of Beautiful Katamari. I've never played Katamari before so this was all new to me. At first I was not really impressed with a game where all you do is roll around and try to pick up larger and large objects, but once I got large enough to pick up a cow it got pretty funny. I can see how the simple gameplay could get really addictive as you try to get a larger and lager each time you play. The graphics had the artsy pastel style I expected from the videos and screen shots I've seen. The demo is only 3 minutes long, but you can play it over and over again if you want to. Personally, I think this might be a game that is better on a larger screen than on something small like the PSP since you can see more of what is around you to try and roll over. I was able to get my Katamari up to about 4 and a half meters which I realize is not super large, but I was happy with it since I was able to get the cow in there. If anyone else tries the demo let me know how large you are able to get so I have an idea of how far I need to go. I'm thinking I might end up renting Beautiful Katamari when it is released just to see how the multiplayer pans out. Playing this with a few friends over live could be a lot of fun.

  • My friend Jeff talks about this game all the time, but I've never played them. I asked my younger sister, who is 7, if she would like it and she said maybe. I'm gonna have to check out this demo now.

  • I'd quite like to try this one out as I've always wondered about the "Katamari" games but never tried them out.

  • I've played both Katamaris on friends Playstations. They are fun games and very addictive. Both of them were a little on the short side, but perhaps with multiplayer support it will have more lasting power.

I think they are great games. Hopefully the price is right and the 360 version is the best yet.

  • I played it for the first time last night....and I couldn't put down the controller. My all time high score so far is 5m 28cm 4mm. I really want to get in that zoo though...but still have had no luck. I've been trying to find some way to extend the time on the demo....there's gotta be a way to get those bears. =)

  • The game is like crack. My high score is 5m 36cm. I've also tried to get into the zoo while I was over 5m but the gate would not come down so I don't think you can get in there. :(

  • i got up to 5m 60cm 1mm and i think the animals in the zoo are big so that they can not be picked up making it impossibe to enter. A tip is that at 5m 20cm you can pick up the fruit stalls around the fountain

  • I actually got 5m69cm today, and I could just get the gate off of the zoo, but couldn't roll up anything in there.

I'm trying to figure out what to roll up to get big enough. I am thinking I should be able to roll up those boats down by the water before the animals in the zoo.

I've only gotten 5m 50cm + like 4 times. (I've played this demo to death)
