Tactics 100 Review

My wife was playing Tetris on my Xbox 360 (it was her birthday so I figured I'd let her) so I was surfing the internet and stumbled across the game Tactics 100. The site lists this description:
Your goal is to create an army of 100 points and send that army into battle against other 100 point armies. Choose the army suited to your fighting style. This is a fair fight and the winner can only be determined by who has the most skill.

The way you attack affects the outcome, you can attack from high ground, at point blank range, from behind your enemies, and many others. Use this to your advantage against your opponent."

Basically, make a squad of up to 8 soldiers and fight other people's squads. Your team can consist of knights, rangers, mages, and clerics.

After playing through a few levels of the single player game I had a team that I thought was pretty good. I had 3 knights and 2 mages. All five of them were leveled up in the attack attributes. So, I started playing people online . The game does a pretty good job of finding opponents who are your same skill level based on how many wins you have. The first two matches I won easily. The third fight was another story. My opponent had 8 archers (rangers). He smoked me with them. He just stood back and picked me off. I did some additional playing and found that a group of 8 archers is pretty much impossible to beat because they have such a long attack range. Because of this I will probably not be playing Tactics 100 any more until the rangers get balanced out. The site does show that the game is still in development and has been update recently. So, I'm hoping that it will get a character balancing update soon. I enjoy games like this where strategy plays a big part of the game, but when one character class is out of balance it takes the fun out of the game.

Give it a try for yourself . It seems like a lot of people have figure out using all rangers is the best so if you find a way to beat them you're smarter than I am. If you beat a team of 8 rangers let me know how you did it.

[Update] Looks like the the developer heard my complaint (I'm sure I was not the only one) and weakened the ranger. I'll have to try my team again. If you check out Tactics 100 leave a comment with how you setup your team and how you fared.

  • I use a mage fully maxed in the second to the last spot in the front left. a knight with a walking range increased on the left , a cleric, and 4 rangers. I grab the tower with the knight and attack with the mage. Then I get the mage on top of the tower and its cake from there on. I havent lost yet.

  • Rangers are still overpowered after the patch. Although now, instead of 8 rangers, they use six rangers with one mage and one cleric as backup (or a variation on that).
    Knights remain fairly useless.

  • I use a mage with maxed health, chain and damage, two clerics with four healing upgrades, and three non-upgraded rangers. I both healers in the back, one on higher ground; the mage in front of the higher ground, and the rangers alongside it.

I have beaten both the full ranger and the ranger + one mage and cleric combo with this layout.

  • That's good, but notice that you still rely on rangers as the largest part of your army. And notice that knights have no place in your army.

So, like I said, knights remain fairly useless, while rangers remain the most commonly used unit.

I would like to see knights be made at least somewhat useful.

  • I sometimes use a knight with max block to distract the enemy mage. So long as this is the only unit within walking range of the mage, The mage will not do much damage with chain - strongest mage, fatigued, does 2 damage to my kight and the rest is chained down. Also the knight attracts attention from enemy rangers from the side or back. This brings them within my mage range, and... CHAIN!

  • I use mage on the tower fully maxed out, two rangers on either side and row of knights in front

  • I use a fully maxed out(exept move speed) mage. with one knight on each side and one in front. then max out the health of the knights as much as u can so their equal. then just stand still and wait for ur enemy to come to you. for some reason all the noobs who use the 6 ranger 1 mage and 1 cleric just cant resist getting a point blank on your knights so u can still attack with them. then once uve gotten most of your enemys taken out u can send your knights and mage on the offensive.

P.S. ive used this strategy for about 6 games total(probly more by the time u see this) and i havent lost yet.

  • Great game, but I prefer the multiplayer over the single player. I created a discussion blog on Beginner and Advanced Strategies and would love to see some participation from you original players if you guys still game with Tactics 100 Live.
